An allergy & a magical cure . . .

Hello treasures ~ I am back at last, with such a happy sigh.
for this last long while I have felt just like rip van winkle!
or frodo baggins in the sleeping grove!
Now i'm back with a tale . . .
Silently & slowly over many moons a great weariness, heaviness,
a bone deep tiredness had crept up and settled upon me,
I had other odd & annoying symptoms too.
I thought, for a long while,  it was just me ~ getting older ;-)
Then by chance my  knight in shining armour (my Mr O)
consulted with a wise man who pronounced a magical cure.
My ailment ~ foods that really shouldn't be passing my lips
things that did daily ~ wheat & dairy, sugar & caffeine!
So i set too and (though often tempted) I have banished those baddies
and at last miracle of miracles ~ after months and months
I feel I have woken up from the longest  hibernation,
I have energy again, which in turn means I can do things again, yay!
A huge change from a just a few short weeks ago.
I was exhausted by the slightest of things, all i felt i could manage was
to read, pottet in the quiet garden, look at loveliness on Pinterest
and sleep on and on and on lol
Who would have thought it had so much to do with diet!

  6. I know how this feels Ruthie. I'm having severe problems due to the things I eat but my will power to cut them out isn't very strong. I wait until I can hardly walk until I cut down again (To my shame!) Well done with cutting out those foods, you must look and feel wonderful!

  9. Hello, there.

Your post made me very happy because I can totally relate! I have almost cut out all dairy from my diet, which has been something I have been struggling for many years to come to terms with the fact that I had to do. I was addicted to that stuff!!

Last Monday I decided to hell with it, and ate a giant mound of potatoes dauphinoise with lashings of beautiful Mersey Valley aged vintage cheddar. Oh, my mouth is watering.

BUT the next day - wow. Fatigue, brainfog, aching, depression - things I've been battling so often in the past decade descended like a cloud. The most unbelievable was the depression. I was feeling suicidal ... and then a day after that all of those symptoms started lifting (well, somewhat. I am battling those things on a day-to-day basis in some form, but for me it's been amazing to see what a very large piece of the puzzle dairy has been. I still can't quite believe it and I'm amazing that I'm actually doing it! I'm quitting my dairy addiction!

Qudos to you. It is a wonderful feeling ... and a difficult thing to do. May you be overflowing with energy :)

I am glad that you are feeling better, Ruthie! Perhaps this is what has been slowing me down lately as well - too much baddie food? I'll have to try this!
Take care & enjoy your new found energy!
    Hugs,

  14. I am so glad you have found your solution! There are SO many ways that diets affect so many people, and yet we have no idea! I too am (slowly) reducing the amount of wheat and dairy I am eating, as I suspect it has more of an impact on me than I think. Its a tough journey at times though, with SO many things containing both items!

  15. SO very glad to hear you are feeling better and could get to the bottom of the troubles. I too have been battling with similar symptoms (as it looks like many of us have! we should start our own blog, I guess, of folks experiencing same) and have removed gluten, caffeine, and sugar from my diet. Such a BIG challenge for a lover of all things sweet and starchy, but when it makes one feel so miserable, it really is not worth it. The very best of luck to you in keeping those things off your plate and out of your mouth. It can be a bit tricky at first, but you'll do famously! Here's to feeling young and fresh and healthy again. Be well and blessed be.

  16. Well done Ruthie! So glad you are better now. I worked as a Nutritionist for 5 years (but gave it up to sell vintage things!) and food intolernaces were the most common problem I saw in patients. So many of us now suffer. x

  17. So happy you are feeling better!! It's awful to feel sluggish and exhausted and not know why! Definitely limits what you can do and quality of life.

A toast to you and feeling great! :)
p.s. love the photos, as always.

  19. This is wonderful...
But where did you start? What did you cut out to start with? I wonder because I would like to do this myself.xxx

  20. Hello, Ruthie, this does sound like my troubles too, with food, and like the last comment, how did you start, what did you cut out first? I'd love to be more creative, and DO lots more stuff, but I just haven't got the energy. :(
I am glad you have mastered your diet, I love your blog too..
Well done. Blessings and best wishes ,
    Wendy

  21. Wendy, Sue ~ the things i cut out, dairy, wheat, sugar, it was an so hard to start with but the benefits far outweighed the difficulty. I do hope you ladies find an answer to your own allergies. Not having energy was the hardest thing for me to deal with, now things are very different. Good Luck.
